How a Reload Bonus Is Structured

A reload bonus is an offer for an existing casino customer who makes another deposit after signing up. The name describes its place in the customer relationship: it is not the initial welcome offer, but a later promotion attached to a further payment into the account.

The basic structure is a deposit match. The casino calculates bonus funds from the amount deposited, commonly by applying a stated percentage, then stops adding funds once the offer’s maximum is reached. The result is therefore governed by two terms: the match rate and the cap. Neither term, on its own, gives the full value of the offer.

A simple calculation can be expressed without assuming any particular promotion. Let the qualifying deposit be D, the match rate be R, and the maximum bonus be C. The bonus is the lower of D × R and C. If the calculated match falls below the cap, the deposit determines the bonus. If it would exceed the cap, the cap sets the amount instead. The deposit remains the customer’s money; the matched amount is promotional credit.

This distinction matters because a headline match is not a cash payment of the same value. It is a calculation that produces bonus funds under the offer’s terms. A larger deposit does not necessarily produce a proportionately larger bonus: once the cap is reached, an additional deposit may add no further matched funds. The cap is thus part of the arithmetic, not fine print that can be ignored while comparing headline rates.

A percentage match can also be read backwards. If the rate and cap are known, the point at which the cap begins to bind can be calculated by dividing the cap by the match rate, expressed as a decimal. Below that point, the match rises with the qualifying deposit; above it, the bonus stays at the capped amount. This explains why two deposits of different sizes may receive the same bonus when both sit beyond the cap. No specific cash result can be calculated without the terms of a particular offer.

The deposit and the bonus should be treated as separate components in the calculation. The customer contributes the deposit; the operator adds the promotional amount according to the stated match. Combining them into a single headline balance obscures which part is the customer’s own money and which part comes from the offer. For assessing the offer’s structure, the useful questions are therefore what deposit the match is calculated on, what rate is applied, and where the cap limits the result. Other conditions can affect how bonus funds may be used, but they do not change this underlying matching calculation.

A reload bonus is also distinct from a discount on the deposit. The deposit is not reduced by the match rate, nor does the match alter the amount paid into the account. Instead, the operator adds a separate bonus amount based on that deposit. If an offer advertises a percentage match, the percentage refers to the bonus calculation, not to a refund of the customer’s payment. Keeping those amounts separate makes the offer’s nominal value easier to assess.

The term “reload” does not itself specify the match rate, cap, or any other detailed condition. Those are set out in the individual promotion. Two offers can both be called reload bonuses while producing different bonus amounts from the same deposit because their rates or caps differ. Conversely, a higher rate does not automatically mean a higher bonus if its cap is lower. The comparison has to use the full calculation, rather than one prominent figure.

In the UK, online casino gambling falls under the Gambling Commission’s regulatory framework. The Commission regulates remote gambling offered to consumers in Great Britain even where the operator’s key equipment is located elsewhere, and it is the sole regulator for commercial gambling in Great Britain. It issues operating licences to businesses and personal licences to individuals working in the regulated activity. That regulatory context does not determine the arithmetic of a reload offer: the match rate and cap remain promotion-specific terms.

Regulatory Context

Online casino gambling in Great Britain is regulated by the Gambling Commission, which issues operating and personal licences regardless of where the operator’s equipment is located.

The structure can be reduced to a clear sequence: an existing customer makes another deposit; the offer applies its stated matching rate to the relevant deposit; and the cap limits the resulting bonus. The calculation gives the bonus amount, while the promotion’s other terms determine what happens after that amount is credited. Separating those questions prevents the headline match from being mistaken for the final value of the offer.

Bonus Crab Casinos and the Reload-Bonus Model

“Bonus crab” is not a description of how a casino promotion works. In a UK casino context, the practical meaning may be a reload bonus: an offer for an existing player who makes another deposit after signing up. The label does not, by itself, identify a separate casino product or a particular game. The terms attached to the promotion determine what is actually being offered.

A reload bonus is generally structured as a deposit match. The casino adds bonus funds calculated from the player’s deposit, subject to the offer’s stated cap. The result is a promotion linked to a further deposit, not a reward available simply because an account exists. The name may be presented in promotional wording, but the underlying arrangement is still defined by the deposit and the casino’s offer conditions.

That distinction matters because a label carries little financial information. Calling an offer a “bonus crab casino” does not state how the match is calculated, whether there is a cap, or what a player must do to qualify. Those details belong to the promotion’s terms. Two offers described in similar language can therefore have different conditions; the shared label does not make their value or requirements equivalent.

The reload model is also different from a welcome offer in its basic audience. A welcome bonus is associated with signing up, while a reload bonus is aimed at an existing player making another deposit. The word “reload” signals that sequence. It does not mean that every later deposit automatically receives a match, or that the same offer remains available each time. Whether an individual promotion applies depends on its stated conditions.

A casino may describe bonus funds as a percentage match to a deposit, and a promotion may sometimes include free spins as well. Those elements should not be inferred from the words “bonus crab” alone. The offer needs to specify what is awarded and how it is awarded. A deposit match is the central structure of a reload bonus; additional features, where included, are separate parts of the promotion rather than a meaning carried by the label.

The distinction between the general model and the terms of one offer is useful when comparing promotional wording. The general model tells what kind of transaction is involved: an existing player deposits, and the casino may credit bonus funds calculated against that deposit. The offer conditions decide the calculation and any limits or requirements. A headline cannot substitute for those conditions, and a catchy label does not change the deposit-based structure.

Some specialist reviews have described reload arrangements covering more than one deposit, including a player’s next three deposits. That is a reported type of offer, not a dependable feature of reload bonuses as a category. A multi-deposit arrangement differs from a single-deposit match because the promotion may apply across a sequence rather than one qualifying transaction. Its existence in a review does not establish that it is currently available from any particular casino, or that the same structure is common across UK offers.

Attention: A promotional label like “bonus crab casino” does not establish specific terms; the actual match calculation, caps, and requirements are only found in the promotion’s detailed conditions.

For that reason, “bonus crab casinos” should not be read as a uniform class of operators with identical promotions. The phrase can point towards casinos advertising a reload-style incentive, but the actual offer is specific to its own terms. The same wording cannot establish whether a deposit is required, what bonus is credited, or which conditions apply. Those are separate questions answered by the promotion details, not by the phrase attached to it.

The UK setting also gives the wording a regulatory context. Remote gambling operators offering services to consumers in Great Britain must hold the relevant Gambling Commission licence, regardless of where their key equipment is located. The Gambling Commission regulates commercial gambling in Great Britain; Northern Ireland is outside the scope of the Gambling Act 2005. A promotional label does not alter an operator’s licensing obligations.

The useful reading is therefore narrow and concrete: “bonus crab” may be promotional language associated with a casino reload offer, while “reload bonus” describes the deposit-linked structure. Neither phrase alone establishes the value of an offer. The deposit match and the promotion’s own conditions are what define the transaction.

Free Spins, Bonus Funds and Withdrawable Winnings

A casino promotion can present value in more than one form. A reload offer may add bonus funds after a deposit, provide free spins, or combine the two. Those components are not interchangeable: bonus funds are credit for play, free spins are allotted plays, and any cash produced by either may be subject to conditions before it can be withdrawn.

A specialist review describes some UK casino free-spin offers as available without a deposit. That is a separate promotional format from a reload bonus, which is intended for an existing player making another deposit. The distinction matters because “free” describes how the spins are received, not necessarily whether every resulting win is immediately withdrawable. The promotion’s terms determine what happens to winnings and whether a wagering requirement applies.

Bonus funds and free spins are different forms of value

A reload bonus may match a deposit with bonus funds, while some offers may also include casino free spins. A specialist review records that combined structure, but it should not be treated as a feature of every reload promotion. The two elements can have separate rules: the bonus funds may carry one set of conditions, while spins may be restricted to a specified game or have their own treatment of winnings.

The headline value therefore needs to be separated into its parts. Bonus credit is not the same as cash deposited into the account. Free spins are not an additional cash balance either; they are opportunities to play under the offer’s terms. A stated reward can look larger when these elements are presented together, but the practical value depends on which component can be used, what conditions attach to it and what portion, if any, becomes withdrawable.

This distinction is especially relevant when a promotion uses language such as “real money prizes”. A win displayed in the account is not automatically equivalent to an unrestricted cash balance. If it results from bonus funds or promotional spins, the terms may make withdrawal conditional on meeting a wagering requirement. The source of the win, rather than just the amount shown on screen, determines which rules may apply.

Do
  • Distinguish between deposited cash and bonus credit
  • Check if winnings from spins are subject to wagering
  • Verify the source of a win before attempting withdrawal
Don’t
  • Treat a combined account balance as a single pool
  • Assume “real money prizes” are immediately withdrawable
  • Mistake free spins for an unrestricted cash balance

When winnings become withdrawable

Reload-bonus winnings commonly remain subject to a wagering requirement before withdrawal. In practical terms, the relevant bonus winnings cannot be treated as available cash until the required play has been completed under the offer’s conditions. That requirement concerns winnings linked to the promotional credit; it does not turn the player’s own deposited money into bonus funds.

The distinction between the two balances has a direct financial consequence. Operators can set a wagering requirement for bonus winnings, but players must still be able to withdraw winnings made with their own funds without first completing a required amount of play. A promotion’s conditions should therefore be read as applying to the promotional element, not as a reason to hold a player’s own balance until bonus play is finished.

Free-spin winnings need the same careful reading. The label “free spins” says how the plays are awarded; it does not by itself establish whether resulting winnings are cash, bonus credit or subject to further conditions. The relevant terms determine how those winnings are credited and whether wagering is required before withdrawal. Without that distinction, a promotional figure can be mistaken for money that is already available to cash out.

A sound comparison separates three amounts: the player’s deposit, promotional credit or spins, and winnings generated from each. The deposit remains the player’s own funds; bonus value is governed by the offer; and winnings may inherit conditions from the promotional source. The displayed total can combine these categories, but their withdrawal status is not the same. For a reload bonus, the key question is not simply how much appears in the account, but which portion is bonus-related and what must happen before that portion can leave it.

Deposit Matches: The Wagering Calculation

A deposit match has two separate calculations: the amount of bonus funds credited and the amount of wagering required before those funds become withdrawable. The first depends on the match rate and cap stated in the offer. The second depends on the wagering requirement and the balance to which it applies. A larger-looking bonus does not, by itself, establish how much play is needed.

For a percentage match, the basic calculation is the qualifying deposit multiplied by the stated match rate, subject to the offer’s maximum. The resulting credit is the bonus amount, not a cash return on the deposit. If the offer attaches a wagering requirement to bonus funds, the required wagering is calculated using the offer’s stated basis. The terms therefore need to specify both the multiplier and whether it applies to bonus funds or another defined amount. Without those details, the headline match cannot be converted into a meaningful cost of play.

A useful comparison is to write each offer as a sequence: qualifying deposit, bonus credit, wagering basis, wagering multiple, and withdrawal point. If the requirement applies to the bonus amount, the calculation is bonus amount multiplied by the stated multiple. If the terms define a different basis, that definition controls. Those are not interchangeable calculations; a single multiplier can produce different required wagering totals depending on the amount it is applied to.

Bonus Wagering Calculation

Identify the Basis

Determine if the wagering requirement applies to the bonus amount alone or another defined balance.

Apply the Multiplier

Multiply the identified basis by the stated wagering multiple to find the total required play.

Track Qualifying Stakes

Accumulate the total qualifying stakes according to the promotion’s rules until the requirement is satisfied.

The wagering requirement measures play, not profit. Meeting it does not mean that the amount wagered will be returned, nor does it make the bonus funds withdrawable before the stated condition is satisfied. The relevant figure is the total qualifying stake counted under the promotion’s rules. Any restrictions on which play counts belong in the calculation too, rather than in the headline value of the match.

For a bonus-crab deposit promotion, the same arithmetic applies if the offer is a reload bonus: the deposit determines the bonus credit under the match terms, while the wagering condition determines how much qualifying play is required before bonus funds can be withdrawn. Calling an offer a “best” option without comparing its calculation would leave out the cost-bearing term. A higher match can carry a greater wagering obligation; the two figures must be read together.

The UK Gambling Commission is due to cap wagering requirements on online casino bonuses at ten times. Reporting on the change is inconsistent about timing: igamingbusiness.com has described the start as occurring in December, without specifying a year, while another stated date is 19 January 2026. The disagreement should not be concealed by treating either date as an established current rule. The cap is relevant to the permitted wagering condition, not a promise that every bonus will use the maximum or that any particular offer represents better value.

The practical comparison is therefore the qualifying deposit and the resulting bonus against the exact wagering basis and the amount of qualifying play required. The headline credit is only one side of the ledger; the requirement determines how much activity stands between that credit and withdrawal.

New Offers May Be Intermittent

“New” can describe a reload bonus that has recently become available to an existing player; it does not necessarily mean that a newly launched casino is involved. A reload offer is linked to a further deposit after sign-up, but its appearance may depend on the promotion being made available to that player. The label alone says nothing about how often an offer returns or whether it will be available to other account holders.

A specialist review describes reload promotions as appearing intermittently and being directed to individual players rather than recurring on a fixed schedule. That is a report about how such offers may be presented, not a calendar on which future promotions can be relied upon. A player may see an offer while another does not, and a promotion seen previously may not reappear at the same point in a later period.

This distinction matters when comparing a “new” offer with a new operator. A recently noticed promotion is not evidence that the casino itself has just opened, nor does a new-operator label establish that an existing player can claim a reload bonus. The relevant question is whether a reload offer is currently shown for the account and what its own terms say. The word “new” is a description, not a condition that determines eligibility or value.

A fixed schedule would let a player anticipate when an offer might return. An intermittent, player-specific promotion does not provide that certainty. Treating an earlier promotion as a standing entitlement would therefore make the calculation depend on an assumption rather than a confirmed offer. The amount credited, any deposit condition and the applicable period must be taken from the promotion actually presented; details from a previous offer cannot safely be carried over to a later one.

Reload bonuses may be intermittent or player-specific, meaning an offer seen previously may not reappear on a fixed schedule or be available to all account holders.

For UK players looking at casino reload promotions, the practical distinction is between a newly visible offer and a newly established casino. The first may be a temporary or individual promotion; the second concerns the operator, not the timing of a reload. Neither label substitutes for the current terms. If no reload promotion is displayed, a past offer does not establish that one is available now. If one is displayed, its stated conditions—not the word “new”—define the transaction.

Minimum Deposits, Time Limits and Balance Access

A reload bonus is tied to another deposit, so a genuinely deposit-free promotion is a different offer type. A low-deposit headline also does not establish the amount needed to qualify: the applicable minimum is set by the promotion’s terms. Without those terms, a specific deposit figure cannot be treated as a current offer condition.

A minimum deposit determines whether a payment qualifies for the bonus, not whether the player can access their own money. Bonus funds and deposit funds must be shown separately. Promotional restrictions and wagering requirements apply to bonus play, not to play using the deposit balance; the player’s own balance remains withdrawable while a bonus is active or pending. That distinction matters where a promotion makes a balance appear larger by combining cash and bonus credit. The displayed total is not a single pool with one set of withdrawal conditions.

UK Online Casino Cashback Bonuses: How Value Works

Time limits are another separate condition. A promotion may set a period in which the bonus must be used, alongside wagering requirements for bonus winnings. Those terms affect the promotional funds; they do not turn the player’s deposit into bonus money or remove access to it. The relevant terms therefore need to identify the qualifying deposit, the period for using the bonus and the conditions attached to bonus play.

From 19 January 2026, the product-mixing ban means an incentive cannot combine more than one gambling product category. Where participation in a category is required, the reward must come from that same category; a stake in one product cannot be used to unlock a reward in another. The exception is where customers have unrestricted choice of which product category to use their credits or bonus money on. That exception concerns the customer’s freedom to choose a category; it is not a general permission to link a required stake in one category to a reward in another.

Accordingly, a low-deposit reload offer should be assessed by separating three things: the amount that qualifies for the promotion, the rules governing bonus funds, and the player’s own deposit balance. A no-deposit label belongs to a different promotion structure, while any actual minimum or time limit depends on the terms of the offer in question.

Eligibility and Claiming a Reload Bonus

A reload bonus is intended for an existing casino player making another deposit, but being an existing customer does not by itself establish eligibility. The offer’s conditions determine whether a deposit qualifies and whether the promotion is activated automatically or needs a separate action. Those conditions can differ between promotions, so the relevant terms are the operative instructions—not the general label “reload bonus”.

Claiming a Reload Bonus

Qualification may depend on a recent deposit, depositing at least a stated amount, or having wagered a specified amount. These are different tests. A recent-deposit condition concerns account activity within the period set out in the offer; a minimum-deposit condition concerns the value of a particular payment; a wagering threshold concerns qualifying play. Meeting one does not necessarily satisfy another. Where an offer lists more than one condition, each must be read separately.

The sequence matters. A qualifying deposit might be required before the promotion can be claimed, while a wagering threshold could be a condition for eligibility rather than a step taken after the bonus is credited. The offer terms should make clear which event triggers the bonus and what must already have happened. Treating every threshold as a post-claim wagering requirement can lead to a mistaken calculation of whether the offer has been activated.

A promo code is another possible claim condition. A specialist review has reported reload offers that require one, but that does not make a code a standard feature of every promotion. If the terms specify a code, entering it at the required point may be necessary; depositing without doing so could leave the promotion unclaimed. If no code is required, there is no reason to assume that one must be entered. The activation instructions should be checked before the qualifying action is taken.

A practical reading of an offer therefore separates three questions: what account activity qualifies, what action claims the promotion, and what conditions apply afterwards. The first may concern a recent deposit or a wagering threshold; the second may involve making a qualifying deposit or entering a code. Later requirements govern use or withdrawal of bonus-related winnings and are not proof that the initial claim succeeded.

For a promotion described informally as a “bonus crab”, the useful test is still the offer’s own eligibility and claim wording. The label does not establish that a player qualifies, that a deposit has been accepted for the promotion, or that a code is unnecessary. Activation is a matter of meeting the stated conditions in the required order; the promotional name is packaging, not an eligibility rule.

Offers That Apply Across Multiple Deposits

A reload bonus does not always have to be tied to one payment. A specialist review describes a less common format in which an offer covers a player’s next three deposits. That is a different structure from a single-deposit match: the promotion is attached to a sequence of deposits rather than settled against one payment alone.

The distinction matters when calculating the value of an offer. A headline that describes a bonus across several deposits does not, by itself, show how much bonus funds each payment earns or whether every deposit must meet separate conditions. Those details depend on the promotion’s terms. The number of qualifying payments is only one part of the calculation; the deposit requirements and any wagering conditions also determine what the offer delivers.

A multi-deposit arrangement should not be treated as a standing feature of UK casino promotions. The specialist review presents it as an uncommon format, not a market-wide pattern, and it does not establish that a particular casino currently has such an offer. Availability can therefore not be inferred from the general description.

Multi-Deposit Bonus Structure

A multi-deposit arrangement differs from a single match as it covers a sequence of payments (e.g., the next three deposits). The total value depends on the specific requirements and bonuses attached to each individual payment in the sequence.

For a UK player comparing reload offers, the useful distinction is between a bonus triggered by one deposit and one that explicitly covers more than one. In the latter case, the terms need to make clear which payments qualify and how the bonus is applied to them. Without those details, a multi-deposit headline cannot be converted into a reliable total value.

Welcome Bonuses and Expiry Conditions

A welcome bonus and a reload bonus belong to different stages of an account. A welcome offer is associated with joining a casino; a reload bonus is made available to an existing player who deposits again after signing up. The distinction matters because a promotion described as a welcome bonus is not, by that label alone, an offer for a returning customer.

The word “welcome” also says little about how long bonus funds remain usable. An offer can have an expiry date, after which the funds may be removed from the account and cease to be playable. The deadline therefore changes the practical value of the promotion: a balance that appears in the account is not necessarily available indefinitely.

The relevant terms should state when the period begins and what happens when it ends. If funds expire before they are used, their displayed amount does not represent lasting account value. It is a temporary promotional balance, subject to the stated deadline. The same distinction applies when comparing a welcome offer with a reload offer: the label identifies the promotion’s audience, while its terms determine how long the bonus remains available.

Expiry is separate from withdrawal status. Bonus funds may be playable only during the stated period, while winnings made from them can remain subject to the promotion’s conditions. Treating the bonus balance as cash available for withdrawal would therefore confuse two different stages: access to promotional funds and access to resulting winnings.

A sound comparison records the expiry condition alongside the offer type, rather than treating a larger advertised bonus as automatically more valuable. Once the deadline passes, any bonus funds removed from the account cannot contribute further play. The calendar is part of the price.

Game Restrictions and Maximum Stakes

A reload bonus can appear to add funds while leaving only part of the casino available for bonus play. Some promotions exclude particular games, so the displayed bonus balance is not necessarily usable across every title. The restriction applies to the bonus funds; the eligible games and any exclusions are set out in the offer terms.

Contribution can also vary by game. Certain games, especially table games, may count less towards the wagering requirement than other eligible play. A stake placed on a low-contribution game therefore does not necessarily reduce the remaining requirement by the same amount as a stake elsewhere. The arithmetic depends on both the game’s contribution rate and the value wagered; a general bonus label cannot establish either.

Maximum-stake rules create a separate constraint. Some casinos set a ceiling on the stake permitted while bonus money is in use. A stake above that ceiling may breach the promotion’s conditions, even if the game itself is eligible. The relevant maximum should therefore be read alongside the game list and contribution rules, not treated as a detail of the casino’s standard cash play.

UK online slots also have a regulatory stake limit per game cycle: £5 for customers aged 25 and over, and £2 for those aged 18 to 24. The £5 limit for adults aged 25 and over took effect on 9 April 2025. These are statutory limits for online slots, not a statement of the maximum stake allowed under a particular reload promotion. A bonus may impose a lower maximum stake of its own.

The practical value of bonus funds depends on the permitted games, their contribution to wagering and the applicable stake ceiling. If any one of these terms is restrictive, the headline balance alone gives an incomplete measure of what can be played. A casino promotion described as a bonus offer is not, by that wording, a separate game or a promise that every game accepts the funds.

What are reload bonuses?

A reload bonus is a promotion for an existing casino player who makes another deposit. The casino adds bonus funds based on that deposit, subject to the offer’s terms and any stated maximum.

How do reload bonuses work?

The casino applies the promotion’s match rate to a qualifying deposit, up to the stated cap. Wagering requirements, expiry dates, eligible games and other conditions may affect how the bonus can be used or withdrawn.

Do you need a promo code for reload bonuses?

Some reload bonuses require a promo code, while others do not. Check the individual promotion’s terms to see how to claim it.

What are the new rules?

From 19 January 2026, the product-mixing ban does not apply when customers can freely choose which product category to use bonus money on. The Gambling Commission will also limit online casino bonus wagering requirements to a maximum of 10x; players must be able to withdraw winnings made with their own funds regardless of how much they have played.

What types of incentives could be offered?

Casinos may offer deposit-matched reload bonuses and sometimes include free spins. Free spins promotions may also be available without a deposit.
